WEST HAMLIN - MVP could have stood for most vital points.

Brianna Davis scored 21 of her 31 points in the second half to lead the Fairland Lady Dragons to a 56-45 win over Guyan Valley Friday to claim the Guyan Valley Holiday Tournament championship.

Davis was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player for her efforts. Teammates Kristen Berry and Kacie Lydell were selected to the all-tournament team.

"Brianna did a heck of a job. Her offense has improved and our offense overall has come around," Fairland coach Nathan Speed said.

"It's a good win. Guyan Valley is a good team. We played hard. It's a big confidence builder, especially after a couple of losses."

Fairland evened its record to 2-2 after winning its two tournament games.

Davis also had five rebounds, five steals and three assists. Berry finished with seven points, seven rebounds and five steals. Lydell had five rebounds.

Morgan Mullins led Guyan Valley (2-3) with 21 points.

Davis matched Guyan Valley's total in the first quarter as Fairland took an 8-5 lead, but Guyan Valley rallied in the second quarter to tie the game at 25-25.

Guyan Valley took a slim 38-37 lead at the end of the third quarter despite 10 points by Davis.

The Lady Dragons then took the lead for good in the fourth quarter as Davis scored 11 points and Berry five more.

Despite the win, Speed said the Lady Dragons need some improvement.

"Overall, we need to box out more. We're letting players get good position inside," Speed said.
