SOUTH WEBSTER - The Chesapeake Lady Panthers were missing just two things, but they were two key elements.

Struggling with a sluggish performance, the Lady Panthers lost 39-36 to the South Webster Lady Jeeps Monday.

"Until we as a team begin to play with some intensity and desire, we will never be a good team," Lady Panthers coach Chad Belville said.

"This game was a carbon copy of the Portsmouth game. The girls want to win, but you can't show up and just expect to win. We played with no intensity."

Things started well for Chesapeake. Lisa Perry nailed a 3-pointer to start the game, Brittany Boyle scores seven points and Joy Mayenchein netted six straight points as the Lady Panthers took a 16-8 first quarter lead.

"We came out and played pretty well. We were patient on offense and got a few runout shots," Belville said.

But the offense disappeared in the second quarter as Chesapeake managed just four points by Noelle Wood and it was 20-20 at the break.

The Lady Panthers took a 26-20 lead to start the third quarter, but South Webster rallied to take a 29-28 lead at the end of the third quarter.

Perry hit a 3-pointer to get within 34-33, and then Perry hit Jennifer Rice with a nice pass for a layup to put the Lady Panthers ahead 35-34.

Jenny Royse answered with a 3-pointer as the Jeeps went ahead 37-35. After Perry's foul shot cut the deficit to one, Whitley Bobst sank two foul shots to seal the win.

"I don't know how many shots we missed in the lane," Belville said.

Perry finished with nine points, six assists and three steals for the Lady Panthers (3-3). Joanna Delimpo pulled down 12 rebounds and Alysson Baise had five.

"Alysson was playing hurt and she played hard when she could go. She tried to suck it up and go. Joanna played really well. Rebounding-wise we did a good job," Belville said.

Royse scored 16 points and Bobst 13 to lead South Webster, 5-2.
