Lady Hornets remain unbeaten with 49-36 win

WILLOW WOOD - Six to one person or a half dozen to another. However you say it, the Coal Grove Lady Hornets are 6-0.

Coal Grove remained unbeaten with a 49-36 win over the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings Tuesday in a non-league game.

Tracy Tackett and Chelsea Markins outscored Symmes Valley as they combined for 36 points. Tackett scored 20 points while Markins had 18.

Leslie Floyd scored 12 points and Rebecca Capper seven to pace the Lady Vikings.

Tackett

had half her points in the first quarter including 4 of 5 from the foul line as Coal Grove took a 16-10 lead. Floyd scored six for the Vikes.

Markins got six points in the second quarter and the defense limited Symmes Valley to five points as the lead grew to 28-15 by halftime.

Capper had all her points in the third quarter as the Lady Vikings came to life and outscored the Hornets 14-8 and closed the gap to 36-29.

But Markins scored seven points and the Lady Hornets converted 7 of 8 from the foul line in the fourth quarter to pull away from the Lady Vikings.

In the reserve game, Coal Grove (1-1) won 27-20 as Tiffany Wallace and Tiffany Campbell had eight points each. Sarah Bocook had 14 for the Vikings.
