SOUTH POINT - There's something missing and coach Mark Lafon knows what it is.

Now, if he can just get his players to find the missing items.

Lafon said two key elements were missing as the South Point Pointers lost 49-46 to the Huntington (W.Va.) St. Joseph Fighting Irish Friday.

"Right now we're not play ing with much intensity and we're not playing very intelligent," Lafon said.

"The only way we can win is to put pressure on people and try to score out of our press or out of our halfcourt trap. We haven't had the effort we needed the last two games."

The Pointers fell to 3-4 after back-to-back losses to the Irish and South Webster. St. Joseph is now 4-2.

The Irish inside trio of Adam Simmons, Josh Hammack and J.L. Brydie combined for 40 points. Simmons had 16 while Hammack and Brybie 12 each.

"(Huntington St. Joseph) does a good job down in the post. When they get the ball in there, they can score," Lafon said.

Seth Craft scored 18 points and had six rebounds to lead South Point. Quentin Smith added 11 points while Aaron Quinn had nine points and six rebounds.

St. Joseph took a 16-9 lead the first quarter only to have the Pointer close the gap to 22-20 at the break.

The Irish pulled away to a 39-29 lead at the end of the third quarter.

South Point kept chipping away in the fourth quarter until a 3-pointer by Smith cut the deficit to 47-46.

But Brydie was fouled and made both free throws for a three-point lead.

The Pointers had two final chances but turned the ball over once and missed a last-second 3-point attempt.
