Seniors key Redwomen OT victory

With senior Maria Bamer fouling out in regulation, seniors Keshia Rupp and Monica Bamer took charge as the Rock Hill Redwomen got past the River Valley Lady Raiders 72-64 Monday in the Ohio Valley Conference opener for both teams.

In overtime, Rupp scored six points and Monica Bamer had four as Rock Hill outscored River Valley 10-2.

"Our seniors stepped up. That was big since we were without Maria Bamer the whole overtime," Redwomen coach Bob Wilds said.

Rupp led the Redwomen with 22 points. Monica Bamer finished with 17 points and 11 rebounds while Marie Bamer had 14 points. Mandy McKenzie grabbed 10 rebounds for Rock Hill (2-4, 1-0).

Leslie Ward had 17 points, Ashley Conwell 14 and Beth Payne 12 for the winless Lady Raiders.

River Valley led 15-14 at the end of the first quarter. Ward got six points and Lyons five in the second quarter as the lead went to 35-31 at the half.

"We got out of rhythm defensively the first half," Wilds said.

Marie Bamer, who sat out the second quarter in foul trouble, scored eight points in the third quarter as Rock Hill came back to take a 45-41 lead.

The Redwomen hurt themselves from the line in the fourth quarter as they made just 9 of 17 attempts. Monica Bamer did hit a foul shot with seven seconds left to take left to lead 62-61.

But with three seconds to go, Christina Naylor sank one of two foul shots to tie the game and force the overtime.

"We got a little more aggressive in the fourth quarter and started attacking the basket more," Wilds said.

The reserve game was won by Rock Hill 30-18 as Katrina Settle had 12 points and Gretchen Dickess five.

In Friday's game, Rock Hill fell at Northwest 57-52.

Keshia Rupp led Rock Hill with 16 points. Marie Bamer scored 14 points and Monica Bamer 10.

Down 17-3 to start the game, Rock Hill rallied to take a 28-27 halftime lead. But Kristen Bradshaw hit four 3-pointers to rally Northwest in the second half.

Bradshaw finished with 22 points. Kari Sanders had 14 and Katie Jordan 10.
