CHESHIRE - It was all about chances.

Fairland failed in its attempts to win while the River Valley Lady Raiders managed to make just enough of their extra chances in posting a 62-58 win Thursday over the Lady Dragons.

The Lady Dragons were just 25 of 74 from the field while River Valley converted 25 of 38 free throws to win its first game.

"We didn't play that well. We had our chances," Fairland coach Nathan Speed said. "We did play better the second half, but we didn't do a lot of the little things to win like make our free throws."

Fairland was only 4 of 16 from the line.

Brianna Davis scored 14 points and had seven rebounds

to lead Fairland (4-5, 1-1 OVC). Kristen Berry followed with 10 points and seven rebounds. Kara Riley also had seven rebounds and Shea Berry handed out six assists.

Kristina Naylor scored 17 points and Beth Payne 16 for River Valley (1-6, 1-1). Ashley Caldwell added 13 and Becky Lyons 11.

River Valley took a 12-8 lead in the first quarter and led 30-24 at the half despite Davis scoring seven points in the second quarter.

The Lady Dragons got within 45-41 as Jodi Waugh scored all eight of her points in the third quarter.

Naylor and Payne scored six points each in the fourth quarter and the Lady Raiders were 13 of 18 from the line to secure the win. Davis had seven points in the quarter.
