MERCERVILLE - The Coal Grove Lady Hornets are a bunch of hot shots.

At least in the first half against the South Gallia Lady Rebels.

Coal Grove shot 61 percent from the field in the first half in building a 23-point lead, then coasted to a 64-33 non-conference win Saturday over South Gallia.

The Lady Hornets made 19 of 31 field goal attempts in the first half as they took a 41-18 lead at intermission.

For the game, Coal Grove was 29 of 57 from the field for 51 percent.

Tracy Tackett had a big all-around game with 19 points, eight assists and seven steals. Chelsea Markins also came up big with 17 points, nine rebounds, nine assists and a couple of blocked shots.

Holli Swarts finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds while Samantha Hall blocked six shots for Coal Grove (7-2).

Tackett came out hot by scoring nine points in the first quarter including a 3-pointer as the Lady Hornets built a 20-8 lead. Markins and Swarts combined for nine more points in the quarter.

Swarts got six points, Tackett five and Markins four in the second quarter as the Coal Grove lead grew to 41-18.

Coal Grove pulled away to a 55-26 cushion as Markins scored six points in the third quarter.

The Lady Hornets play at River Valley Monday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
