PEDRO - The Rock Hill School Board Thursday night agreed to allow its new president, Lavetta Sites, to interview prospective legal counsel for the board.

The school district has an attorney but the resolution, approved on a 3-2 vote, will allow the board to have its own attorney.

"By law, the board does have the right to legal representation of its own choosing," Sites said. "As of now we don't have anyone to represent the board on an as-needed basis."

Board members Wanda Jenkins, who submitted the matter, Paul R. Johnson and Sites voted in the affirmative; board members Jackie Harris and Troy Hardy voted against it. Neither Hardy nor Harris was available for comment.

Also, the board voted to add a two-hour delay option to the school's inclement weather policy.

Until now, Rock Hill schools either were open, closed, or dismissed early during bad weather.

"I feel like maybe we could save some calamity days," Sites said. "If the weather is bad and didn't clear up we could still opt to close school entirely."

The vote on that matter was unanimous.
