Lady Tigers put together solid performance

No complaints.

Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers coach Amy Hughes wasn't complaining about much of anything following a 63-36 win Thursday over the Rock Hill Redwomen.

Playing their third game in four days, Hughes was concerned her team would be too fatigued as the game wore on. As it turned out, Ironton's relentless defensive pressure and unselfish offense wore on the Redwomen.

"We did a better job defensively, other than a couple of spots," Hughes said. "Our legs were a little tired early because our shots were all short, but then we got our second wind and the offense started to click. It was a good win."

Sara Hacker led Ironton (11-4) with 23 points and seven rebounds. Mandi Boykin had a solid game with 13 points, eight rebounds, six steals and three assists.

Andrea Rudmann added nine points, four assists and three steals, and Danielle Henderson eight points and seven rebounds.

Rock Hill (3-8) was led by Marie Bamer with 15 points and six rebounds. Keshia Rupp had nine points, Mandy McKenzie eight points and six rebounds and Monica Bamer five rebounds and three assists.

Ironton jumped ahead 9-0 to open the game and led 11-3 at the end of the first quarter.

The Redwomen got within 13-7 on back-to-back baskets by Marie Bamer and McKenzie, but Ironton went on a 14-1 run to end the half and build a 27-8 cushion.

A 15-footer by Rupp made it 28-10, but Sarah Cartmell hit a layup, Boykin drilled a 3-pointer, Rudmann had a steal and layup, Boykin then did the same, and Hacker sank two foul shots as Ironton took its biggest lead of the game at 39-10 with 3:52 on the clock.

Hacker went on a shooting spree as she made seven straight shots -four in the fourth quarter - including a 3-pointer with 5:36 left to put Ironton up 55-26.

The Lady Tigers are off until Saturday, Jan. 31, when they host Lucasville Valley at 1 p.m.

Rock Hill hosts Wheelersburg at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

In the reserve game, Ironton won 24-18 as Shant\u00E9 Lewis scored seven and Tennielle Young six. Tara Sharp had eight and Courtney Sharp 5 for Rock Hill.
