PORTSMOUTH - Getting back to basics.

Unhappy with the defensive effort, Green Bobcats head coach Kevin Lewis made defense the focus of his team's practices.

The strategy worked Friday night as Green handled the Portsmouth Notre Dame Titans 69-40 in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

"I thought we spent a little extra time trying to do a better job with our defensive intensity and I thought the kids did a pretty good job," Lewis said. "We didn't worry what the score was. Our defensive intensity was as good as it has been all season."

The offense didn't take a back seat. Three players were in double figures and 10 reached the scoring column.

Timmy Yarnell had 15 points, nine rebounds and six assists.

Aaron Patten added 14 points, Brian Ramey scored 12, and Derek Lewis had nine points.

"We had 10 in the scoring column and some real nice balance in scoring with a little extra incentive on the defensive end. It was a nice team win and everyone was able to contribute," coach Lewis said.

Patten and Yarnell scored six points each in the first quarter as Green jumped on the Titans 20-9.

Yarnell and Brian Ramey had five each in the second quarter to extend the cushion to 36-19 at the half.

Ramey had six points in the third quarter as Green opened up a 55-31 lead.
