WILLOW WOOD - Defense all over the court.

That was the key ingredient as the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings whipped the Portsmouth Notre Dame Lady Titans 51-28 Thursday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

"We had a very good defensive game. Our man-to-man defense and our full court press seemed to be the difference," Lady Vikings coach Lisa Bryant said. "All of our girls did a nice job of containing their offense."

Another key for the Lady Vikings was 37 rebounds. Leslie Floyd had eight, Megan Coomes seven, and Brigette Thompson and Rebecca Capper five each.

"We had a good rebounding game as well," Bryant said. "Our girls got great inside position and have become aggressive on the boards."

Floyd had 13 points and Capper 11 to lead the Lady Vikings (5-9, 4-6) offense. Maggie Cardosi led the Lady Titans with eight.

"Leslie Floyd and Rebecca Capper had great games, both offensively and defensively," Bryant said. "Capper stepped it up on offense and Leslie did a terrific job running the offense, driving the lane and creating things on the offensive end.

"Brigette Thompson and Megan Coomes had good nights as well. Both of them worked really hard on defense and controlled both the offensive and defensive boards.

Capper hit a pair of 3-pointers in the first quarter S Symmes Valley took a 14-4 lead. Notre Dame matched the Vikings almost every basket in the second quarter, but Symmes Valley took a 28-16 lead into the locker room.

The lead was 41-27 at the end of the third quarter, but the Lady Titans managed just one point in the fourth quarter.

Symmes Valley hosts Green Monday in an SOC game.
