GRAYSON, Ky.- Kentucky State Police are following new leads in their investigation of the disappearance of a Hitchins, Ky., couple and the search for their son.
Andrew Garret Young, 22, is also wanted on a fugitive from justice warrant in connection with a 2002 shooting and attempted theft incident in Lawrence County.
Kentucky State Police trooper Elliott Gollihue said the Ashland, Ky., post received word Sunday that Cincinnati police had recovered the silver 2001 Chevrolet Malibu belonging to Gary and Cheryl Young. The car was located at Bethesda Hospital parking lot in Cincinnati and was taken as evidence and sent to the KSP Central lab of Frankfort for further processing.
The Youngs were reported missing earlier this month after they failed to show up for work.
In addition, an acquaintance of Andrew Young, Stephanie Griffith, has also been reported missing. According to a KSP media release, Griffith may be with Young.
Both Young and Griffith were arrested in January 2003 and charged in connection with attempted theft
at a residence in Lawrence County in October 2002. During the attempted theft, the occupants of the residence were injured.
Young failed to show up for his April 2003 trial and subsequently a fugitive from justice warrant was issued for him. Griffith pleaded guilty to a single count of felonious assault against her shortly after her arrest.
Kentucky State Police said a check belonging to Gary and Cheryl Young was cashed at a Staples office supplies store in Lexington Jan. 18.
Young is described as 5 feet nine inches tall, 180 pounds with brown hair and hazel eyes. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Andrew Young may call the KSP at (606) 928-6421 or 1-800-222-5555.
