BALTIMORE, Md. - Courtney Doughman is adjusting to college basketball as quick as she moves toward the basket.
The Ironton native is a freshman for the University of Maryland Baltimore County women's basketball team. Despite her inexperience, Doughman was named by the America East as Wilson Rookie of the Week for the week ending Jan. 25.
Doughman had an outstanding week as she averaged 14.0 points per game en route to picking up the conference's weekly honors and became the first-ever UMBC women's basketball player to earn a conference weekly award.
Doughman, who came off the bench as a reserve in both games on the week, scored a career-high 17 points against conference leader Maine.
Doughman hit 6-of-9 shots from the field and 5-of-6 from three-point range in 24 minutes of work.
Against New Hampshire in the Retrievers' first game of the week, Doughman logged 29 minutes and went 4-of-6 from the field and 3-of-4 from three-point range. Doughman finished with 11 points, three assists and a steal.
On the week, the 5-foot-8 guard shot 66.7 percent (10-of-15) from the floor and 80.0 percent (8-of-10) from three-point range.
Courtney is the daughter of Joey and Cathy Doughman of Ironton.
