SOUTH POINT - One down, two to go.

The South Point Lady Pointers began a pivotal stretch with a 44-41 win over the Rock Hill Redwomen in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

The Lady Pointers are 6-10 overall and 5-2 in the OVC, one game behind Fairland. South Point hosts Coal Grove Thursday and plays at Fairland Saturday.

"This was a big win. We've got two more big games this week and one next week," Lady Pointers coach Dave Adams said. "We still control our own destiny."

Jessi Craft scored 16 points and handed out five assists while Alisha Bridges had nine points and five rebounds for the Lady Pointers. Monica Bamer and Marie Bamer scored 10 each for Rock Hill (5-10, 3-4).

"It wasn't pretty, but we'll take it. We didn't play well, but we played well in enough spots to win. I thought Rock Hill played well," Adams said. "Alisha didn't shoot well, but she played defense and was on the floor scrapping. Jessi was steady all the way through."

After an 8-8 first quarter, Marie Bamer and Bobbi Harper scored four points each as the Redwomen took a 22-19 halftime lead. Craft had nine of her points in the first half.

South Point rallied to take a 33-31 as Elisha Joyce scored four points in the third quarter. Monica Bamer had four for the Redwomen.

"They focused on Bridges and Craft and Joyce hit some big shots," Adams said.

The Lady Pointers made 5 of 10 from the line in the fourth quarter.

"We needed to do a better job there. Making five wasn't enough to put them away," Adams said.

In the reserve game, South Point won 31-19 as Sarah Lee scored eight points, Vanessa Rogers six and Missy Wheeler 5. Anna Bridges had eight for Rock Hill.
