This time, Shawn Hacker had plenty of help.

The young St. Joseph Flyers showed signs of growing up as they used a strong team effort to whip the Portsmouth Notre Dame Titans 71-56 Tuesday.

Hacker, the lone starting senior, had 23 points and a career-high 25 rebounds to lead the Flyers (3-11).

But the Flyers had four players in double figures for the first time this season, including Alex Swarts with a double-double as he scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

Jeremy Addis had 14 points and turned in a strong defensive effort and Cory Lewis scored 13 points.

Nicholas Chabot scored 24 points for the Titans (1-12) while Charlie Doll added 12.

"These kids just keep playing hard and they deserve to win. This was a total team effort," Flyers coach Adam Simpson said. "Addis held (Doll) to just two points the second half, Swarts had a double-double, Lewis hit some big shots, Schwab ran the offense and Shawn had a career high in rebounds.

"And we got some good contributions from Chad Haas, Michael Basedow, Kurt Jordan and Clay Crum."

Hacker and Addis combined for 11 points as St. Joseph took a 19-10 lead. Doll had seven of the Titans points.

Hacker had six, Swarts five, and Addis four in the second quarter as the Flyers pulled away to a 36-24 halftime lead.

Lewis had seven points, including a 3-pointer and Hacker also scored seven as St. Joseph built a 59-39 cushion.

"Shawn really ran the floor well," Simpson said.

The Flyers led by as many as 24 points in the fourth quarter. Chabot got 10 of his points in the final quarter.
