New Boston posts win over Flyers

NEW BOSTON - No Shawn Hacker is not good news.

Hacker, who averages 27 points and 20 rebounds, did not play due to a knee injury. So the New Boston Tigers took advantage to beat the St. Joseph Flyers 83-52 Tuesday night.

New Boston (8-9) had four players in double figures led by Greg Mauk with 24 points. Zach Messer scored 16 points, Aaron Spriggs 13, and Matt Marshall added 10.

Alex Swarts led the Flyers (3-14) with 23 points and 12 rebounds. Michael Basedow scored 10 points and had three steals while Jeremy Addis had four assists and Cory Lewis three assists.

Mauk got eight points as New Boston took a 16-15 first quarter lead. Swarts had 10 points for the Flyers with Basedow adding five.

In the second quarter, Mauk erupted for 11 points including three shots from behind the arc as the Tigers scored 31 points and led 47-35 at the half.

Swarts got seven points and Basedow five more with Ryan Schwab and Lewis each hitting 3-pointers.

"Our kids played well the first half. They played inspired basketball, but then we just ran out of gas," Flyers coach Adam Simpson said.

Messer got nine points and Spriggs scored six in the third quarter as New Boston outscored the Flyers 24-8 and it was 71-43. Swarts had six of the Flyers eight points.
