LATHAM - Too many mistakes.

Too many fouls and turnovers proved to be too much to overcome as the Green Lady Bobcats lost to the Western Pike Lady Indians 57-54 Wednesday.

Green had 22 turnovers and sent the Lady Indians to the foul line 38 times. Western was 22 of 38 from the foul line.

"The 22 turnovers really hurt us, and then we just fouled too much," Green coach Melissa Knapp said. "We're young, so we have to learn to stop making these kinds of mistakes."

Chelsey Pierce scored 14 points to lead three Lady Bobcats in double figures. Heidi Tackett scored 12 points and Elista Hall 11 for Green (4-13, 4-8 SOC).

Kaylee Helton had 20 points, Jane Downing 17 and Brittney Brewster 11 to lead Western.

Hall had five points in the first quarter as Green to a 14-8 lead.

Brewster then scored six points in the second quarter to offset five by Green's Jessica Dyer as Western got within 24-23 at the half.

The Lady Indians took a 39-38 lead after three quarters despite eight points by Hall, who hit a pair of 3-pointers.

Tackett scores seven points in the fourth quarter as Green went up by six points with three minutes to play, but four straight turnovers by Green led to fouling and Western converted 7 of 13 from the line down the stretch.

Green hosts Symmes Valley Thursday, then visits the Lady Vikings Saturday in a makeup game.
