PROCTORVILLE - It was quite a finish to the Fairland Lady Dragons season.

The Lady Dragons completed an 11-9 season Thursday with a 54-34 win over the Coal Grove Lady Hornets in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

Picked third and fourth in the preseason, Fairland finished 7-3 and runners-up in the league race.

"People didn't expect us to do too much and that was motivation for us," Fairland coach Nathan Speed said. "We weren't the most consistent team, but we always played hard."

Brianna Davis poured in 28 points and had 10 rebounds to lead Fairland. Megan Fisher had six points, eight rebounds, six assists, and five steals while Kara Riley grabbed 11 rebounds.

Speed attributed a lot of Fairland's success to the leadership of Fisher, the team's only senior.

"We had a leader in Megan. She worked hard and was at every open gym, and in practice she always went 100 percent. She never slacked off," Speed said. "She's been here for four years and she knows what you're supposed to do. She'll be missed."

Chelsea Markins had 13 points and Tracy Tackett 10 to pace Coal Grove (10-9, 1-8).

Kacie Lydell scored all five of her points in the first quarter as Fairland jumped out to an 18-9 lead. Tackett scored five for Coal Grove.

Davis had five points in the second quarter to offset four by Markins as the lead remained the same at the half, 27-18.

In the third quarter, Davis erupted for 13 points and the defense held Coal Grove to four points and it was now 44-22.

Davis got six more points in the fourth quarter while Markins had seven.
