PEDRO - One bad apple didn't spoil the whole bunch.
Seth Craft made one bad pitch, but still pitched the South Point Pointers to an 11-7 win Monday over the Rock Hill Redmen in the Ohio Valley Conference opener for both teams.
"Seth pitched a great game. He made just one bad pitch that he got up and out over the plate a little and it went for a home run," Pointers coach Kevin Milem said.
South Point jumped in front 4-0 in the first inning.
Wes Patterson singled, moved up on a wild pitch, and scored on Caleb Copley's base hit. Dale Kinney tripled home Copley and Corey Smoot unloaded a two-run homer.
The lead went to 5-0 in the top of the fifth inning when Copley singled, stole second, and Kinney doubled.
But the Redmen cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the inning.
Micah Settle walked, stole second base, and Nathan Wagner reached on a passed ball third strike. Josh Moore was safe on an error as Settle scored, and Aaron Miller singled home Wagner.
Rock Hill got within 4-3 in the sixth as Settle singled, stole second, and Matt McFann delivered a run-scoring single.
Both teams erupted in the seventh inning.
Zane Joy walked, Tyler Wells beat out an infield hit, and an interference call put the runners at second and third. Patterson then singled home both runners.
Copley singled, Kinney walked, and Smoot hit into a fielder's choice that forced Patterson at home. Craft singled in a run, Tyler Staton hit into a fielder's choice for the fifth run, and a passed ball scored Craft to make it 11-3.
In the bottom of the seventh, Moore singled, T.J. Blagg and K.C. Christian walked to load the bases, and Justin Lavender unloaded a grand slam home run.
South Point is 1-2 overall. Rock Hill is 1-1.
