COLUMBUS - Former Ohio State offensive lineman John Peterson has returned to his alma mater.

Ohio State announced Monday that Peterson would take over as the Buckeyes tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator, succeeding Bill Conley who resigned earlier this month.

Peterson has spent the past five seasons as offensive line coach at Miami (Ohio). He left Miami in January to become the offensive guards and centers coach at Arizona under Mike Stoops. His brief stay in Arizona ended when Tressel offered him the opportunity to return to Ohio State.

A native of Middletown - where he was coached by Conley - Peterson was a four-year letterman for the Buckeyes and was the starting left guard as a senior in 1990.

He spent two years at the University of Cincinnati as a graduate assistant before spending a year in the same capacity at Ohio State. He was a full-time offensive line coach at Akron for four years before moving to Miami in February of 1999. In March of 2001, he was given the added responsibility of running-game coordinator.
