More of the same.

Ironton whipped the Wellston Golden Rockets 11-5 Saturday as the Fighting Tigers offense continued to produce plenty of runs and the pitching remained impressive.

"That's five games in a row we've hit the ball well," Ironton coach Mark Lewis said. "Our pitching has been pretty good all year. Josh Adkins had a sore arm and we took him out early, but Dennis Gagai came in and just threw strikes and we made some plays behind him.

"As long as we can continue to do those kind of things, we'll have some success."

Gagai (2-0) pitched five innings in relief allowing four hits and the only run was unearned. He struck out three and walked one.

Josh Sands was 3-4 with a double and a triple while Kevin Williams was 3-4 with three runs batted in to pace the offense.

"Sands has a good, quick bat, and Williams has been in a groove the past few games. We need them to stay hot," Lewis said.

Williams singled home a run in the first inning after Sands singled and stole second.

Wellston (3-7) came back to get three runs in the top of the second inning - two were unearned - to take the temporary lead.

Ironton got one run back in the bottom of the inning when Brigham Waginger reached on an error and came home on a wild pitch.

The Fighting Tigers took the lead for good with three runs in the third inning.

Sands tripled and Gagai blooped a single to right. Nick Collins doubled in Gagai and Waginger had an RBI single.

The lead went to 6-3 in the fourth when Sands reached on an error and Williams doubled.

Ironton put the game away with five runs in the fifth inning.

Gagai was safe on an error, Collins walked and Patrick Kouns and a two-run single. Dustin Preston singled and Chris Collins hit into a force play as a run scored. Sands doubled home a run and then came around to score on a hit by Williams.
