PORTSMOUTH - Greg Bryant is beginning to see some daylight.

Despite losing a doubleheader 5-1 and 7-5 to the Portsmouth Notre Dame Titans Saturday, the St. Joseph Flyers head coach came away with some positive actions.

"Ryan Waginger pitched his best game of the season. He had all three of his pitches working," Bryant said.

"And our hitting is coming around. We played pretty well. They just had one inning in each game where everything they hit fell in."

In the first game, the Flyers took a 1-0 lead

when Ryan Schwab singled, stole second, moved up on a ground out, and came home on a sacrifice fly by Cory Lewis.

The Titans tied the game 1-1 in the fourth inning, then got five hits in the fifth inning when they scored four unearned runs.

In the second game, St. Joseph jumped out in front again with four runs in the top of the first inning.

Kurt Jordan doubled, Schwab single and Swarts walked to load the bases. Jeremy Addis

singled home a run and a throwing error on the play scored another runs. Waginger was safe on an error to score Swarts.

After Notre Dame got three runs in the bottom of the inning, the Flyers came right back to get a run in the second inning.

Jordan singed, stole second, and came home when Lewis doubled.

But the Titans got a run in the bottom of the inning to get within 5-4, then tied the game in the third before scoring twice in the fourth inning to take the five-inning victory.

Jordan was 2-4 in the first game and 2-3 in the second contest. Addis was 2-3 in the first game while Schwab was 1-2 and 2-3, respectively.

Notre Dame is 6-1 and St. Joseph fell to 0-7.

The Flyers host Coal Grove on Monday.
