Symmes Valley gets past Rebels

MERCERVILLE - The Symmes Valley Vikings remained perfect.

The Vikings beat the South Gallia Rebels 4-2 Thursday to stay unbeaten in six games.

Cory Burcham, Kyle Gilmore and Chase Higgins combined for a three-hitter and the offense collected 11 hits en route to the win.

Burcham struck out four and walked two. Gilmore fanned two and walked one in one inning of work. Higgins hurled the final two innings, striking out two and walking one.

Chad Artrip led the offense as he went 3-4 with two runs batted in. Matt Owens was 2-2.

The Vikings broke a scoreless tie with a run in the third inning.

Kyle Meadows and Owens singled, then Gilmore put down a sacrifice bunt. When no one was covering home, Meadows continued towards home and scored.

The lead went to 3-0 in the fifth inning.

Owens and Burcham walked, both moved up on a passed ball, and Artrip had a two-run single.

The Vikings got an insurance run in the sixth inning.

Myers singled, stole second, went to third on Meadows' base hit, and Owens singled to drive in Myers.

The Rebels got single runs in the sixth and seventh innings.

Symmes Valley hosts Green Monday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.
