Symmes Valley splits doubleheader with Eastern

AID - For the Symmes Valley Vikings, it was splitsville.

The Vikings had to settle for a split of Saturday's doubleheader with the Beaver Eastern Eagles in a couple of Southern Ohio Conference games.

Symmes Valley won the opener handily, 13-4, then dropped the nightcap 5-3.

The Vikings banged out 12 hits in the opener to back the combined pitching of Kyle Meadows and Jesse Myers. Meadows went five innings to get the win while Myers came on in the sixth and struck out three while walking just one.

Caleb Bland and Chase Higgins sparked the offense as each went 3-for-4. Bland had a double among his three hits.

Cory Burcham was 2-4 with a double, Chad Artrip 2-4 and a double, Justin Holland 1-4 and a run batted in, Matt Owens 1-3, and Meadows added an RBI.

Eastern collected 11 hits as Alexander, the starting and losing pitcher, had a double. Alexander struck out five and walked five.

Alexander, Southworth and Taylor each had doubles for Eastern. Southworth added two RBI while Osborne had two hits, and Howard and Brown each collected a base hit.
