PROCTORVILLE - As far as Fairland Dragons coach Roger Snyder is concerned, there's no time to celebrate.

Fairland got a 6-2 must-win over the Coal Grove Hornets Wednesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game, but that only set up today's showdown with Chesapeake.

Fairland is now 11-3 overall and 6-2 in the OVC, one-half game behind Chesapeake which is 6-1.

"This was a good win, but now it makes (Thursday's) game a big one for everybody," Snyder said. "We just have to keep doing what we need to win. I'd just like to do it a couple more times."

Matt Clark did what he had to do as he pitched a two-hitter. Clark struck out nine and walked two in getting the win.

Randy Wise pitched well in defense for Coal Grove. Wise allowed six hits, fanned five and issued just one walk.

"That's the best game Randy has pitched. He wasn't nervous out there," Hornets coach John Jones said. "We didn't have a lot of hits, but I was happier with our contact."

After a scoreless first inning, each team got a run in the second.

Coal Grove got its run when Tommy Pemberton singled, Nick Bazell and Aaron Abt were hit by pitches, and Patrick Roush hit a sacrifice fly.

Fairland tied the game when Zacc Russell and Clark singled, Adam Fuller put down a sacrifice bunt, and Bo Adams laid down a squeeze bunt.

The Dragons took the lead with an unearned run in the third inning.

With one out, Michael Hill doubled and scored when Cory McKnight reached on a throwing error.

Pemberton tripled and Bazell hit a sacrifice fly as Coal Grove tied the game in the top of the fourth inning.

But Fairland came right back in the bottom of the inning to score and take the lead for good.

With one out, Clark singled and stole second. Adams then reached on a throwing error that allowed the run to score.

Pemberton had both Coal Grove hits.
