WHEELERSBURG - Following yet another loss by the hapless Tampa Bay Buccaneers during their expansion era, a reporter asked then-coach John McKay about the execution of his team.

McKay replied, "I'm all for it."

Things weren't that drastic Thursday for the Ironton Fighting Tigers, but coach Mark Lewis was unhappy with his team's inability to make plays.

Five Ironton errors including two in the bottom of the seventh inning that helped score the winning run gave the Wheelersburg Pirates a 3-2 win.

"In big games, you have to make the key plays. We didn't do that and it cost us the ball game," Lewis said."Josh Adkins pitched a heck of a game, we just didn't clutch up at the plate. We chased a lot of bad pitches?

Adkins took the loss despite allowing just one earned run and four hits. He struck out three and walked the same.

Alex Wamsley went the distance for Wheelersburg to get the win. He struck out three and did not walk a hitter."

The game was scoreless until the third inning when Ironton got both its runs.

Josh Sands reached on a fielder's choice, stole second, and went to third on an infield hit by Kevin Williams. Williams stole second and Sands scored on Adkins' ground out.

Williams went to third on the play and scored on a wild pitch.

The Pirates (17-1) tied the game in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Josh Cowgill doubled, Nathan Timberlake walked, and Brandon White hit into a fielder's choice. John Storey walked to load the bases and Brandon Russell grounded into a force out at second base.

However, in an attempt to turn the double play the relay throw on the play was wild and White raced home with the tying run.

Lack of defense gave Wheelersburg its winning run in the bottom of the seventh.

Russell walked to open the inning. Wamsely reached when his fly ball was dropped in the outfield and Ironton misplayed Drew Sampson's bunt attempt to load the bases.

Ian Miller then single hard to right field to drive home Russell with the winning run,

Williams was 2-3 for Ironton (8-6).
