KENOVA, W.Va. - Ironton made the most of what they had.

The Fighting Tigers had seven hits and they parlayed them into six runs as they beat the Spring Valley Timberwolves 6-5 Saturday.

"We got some clutch hits today. We haven't been doing that lately," Ironton coach Mark Lewis said. "We've been getting people on, but we've left them stranded. This was a good win because we came through in the clutch."

Ironton (9-7) got some clutch pitching, too. Kevin Williams went four innings and limited the T'Wolves to three runs and five hits. Dennis Gagai picked up his first career save with three innings of work as he allowed two unearned runs.

"Our pitching was pretty good. We gave them three of their runs," Lewis said.

Williams walked and Josh Adkins and Gagai singled as Ironton took a 1-0 lead in the first inning.

Spring Valley used a walk and two Ironton errors to take a 2-1 lead in the second inning.

The Fighting Tigers tied the game in the third when Williams walked and Gagai belted a two-out double.

In the fourth inning, Patrick Kouns walked and scored when Adam Ferguson's fly ball was dropped in the outfield.

The T'Wolves tied the score in the bottom of the inning as Willie Bays tripled and Wade Murphy hit a sacrifice fly.

Ironton took the lead for good with a run in the fifth.

Williams reached on a fielder's choice, stole second, took third as the throw went into the outfield, and scored on Adkins' base hit.

The Fighting Tigers pushed across what proved to be the winning runs in the sixth.

Nick Collins and Kouns singled and both moved up on a wild pitch. Brigham Waginger put down a squeeze bunt to score Collins and Ferguson followed with an RBI double.

Clay Maddox reached on an error and Chris Walters hit a two-out, two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh for the T'Wolves, but Gagai got the next batter to fly out and end the game.
