SOUTH POINT - The village's volunteer fire department was successful in obtaining authorization to purchase needed equipment during Tuesday night's regular village council session.
Approval for 11 badges, 11 radio/pagers and a contract agreement with All-American Fire Equipment Inc. of Milton were tabled during April's regular session.
The contract with All-American will allow the company to provide a 40-point diagnostic service check on fire engines.
A $432.30 invoice was also approved for the purchase of a rebuild kit to fix a department truck's water overpressurization safety valve, which controls water flow during pump operations.
"The contract approval (All-American) will help get trucks fixed before something breaks down or goes wrong," Assistant Fire Chief Wes Hawthorne said.
The badges will cost $583.95 and radio/pagers will be $3,455. The contract with All-American is $1,000.
"The biggest reason we're going for radios with paging features is because they are cheaper than just a radio alone," Hawthorne said. "You could almost get two radios for the price of one."
Other actions taken during regular council session included:
4Heard an update regarding OPWC (Ohio Public Works Commission) funding application for sewer improvement projects.
4Recognized public informational meeting regarding Biomass Energy LLC, scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the high school cafeteria.
"I think we have a right to know what they're (Biomass) doing," Mayor Bill Gaskin said.
4Approved April's financial report and revenue/expenditure account to include tabled discussions regarding the police department.
4Discussed SEOEMS and First Responder program.
