MERCERVILLE - The second season ended too quickly.
The South Gallia Rebels knocked the St. Joseph Flyers out of the postseason with a 9-3 opening round win Monday in the Division IV sectional tournament.
"We weren't ready to play," Flyers coach Greg Bryant said. "This is a young team and we need to be more focused."
After South Gallia took a 1-0 in the first inning, the Flyers came back to tie the game in the top of the second inning.
Ryan Waginger was hit by a pitch, Alex Swarts singled, Joe O'Leary hit into a fielder's choice, and Ryan Schwab had an RBI single.
But the Rebels came back to score four runs in the bottom of the inning to take a lead they would never relinquish.
South Gallia got two more runs in the fourth inning to make it 7-1.
The Flyers got a run in the fifth when Jordan walked, stole second, took third on a throwing error, and came home on a hit by Cory Lewis.
The Rebels added two more runs in the sixth inning before St. Joseph got its final run in the seventh.
Aaron Whaley was hit by a pitch, Lewis hit into a fielder's choice, Jeremy Addis was safe on an error, and Swarts had a run-scoring single.
St. Joseph, 2-15, plays at Raceland, Ky., Tuesday.
