MINFORD - Doing good things meant a good win for the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings.

The Lady Vikings got a good pitching performance from Lori Harmon and some good defense as they beat the Reedsville Eastern Lady Eagles 4-1 in the Division IV district semifinals Thursday.

"We beat a good team. We got good pitching and good defense and

we took advantage of some walks and our hits. It's nice to get out of this one with a win," Lady Vikings coach Jeff "Odie" Estep said.

Harmon pitched a two-hitter to get the win. She struck out 13 and walked two. Symmes Valley had just one error.

"Lori got in a little trouble in the sixth inning, but she worked herself out of a jam. She was a real bulldog tonight," Estep said.

Symmes Valley, 19-5, plays Leesburg Fairfield Saturday at 3 p.m. in the district finals. Leesburg beat Portsmouth Notre Dame 9-1.

After two scoreless innings, the Lady Vikings pushed across two runs in the bottom of the third inning.

Megan Coomes led off with a double to left field and went to third on a throwing error from the outfield. Cassie Myers walked, stole second and Harmon singled to left-center to score both runners.

The lead went to 4-0 in the sixth inning.

Rebecca Capper and Jodi Black walked to start the inning. Erin Martin beat out a bunt single to load the bases. Kristen Crabtree and Coomes followed with back-to-back RBI singles.

"The whole team hit the ball, but we hit it right at them and they made some good plays," Estep said. "The bottom of the lineup produced three runs and four of our five hits. It's good to see that in a game like this."

Harmon gave up both her walks in the sixth inning and the runners moved up on a passed ball. But she struck out the next two batters and enticed the following batter to ground out to shortstop and end the inning.

The Lady Eagles got their run in the top of the seventh.

Cass Ludwick double to lead off the seventh inning and then brittany Bissell singled for the RBI. But Harmon retired the next three batters to end the game.

Eastern finishes 17-6.
