PROCTORVILLE - For the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers, there's nothing like a nice get-together.

The Lady Tigers got it together Saturday as they finished as the Division II Southeast District track runners-up behind perennial power Gallipolis.

Ironton finished with 87.83 points while Gallipolis had 123. Federal Hocking was a distant third at 55.66 and South Point placed fourth with 48 points.

"We've had a lot people missing all year with injuries or whatever reason, but we've been together the last few weeks and that's made a difference," Ironton coach Tim Thomas said.

"I've got to give the girls all the credit in the world. They accomplished more than we expected today. They all gave a great effort."

Mandi Boykin was a key ingrediant as Ironton stepped up its performance. Boykin won the 100 and 200 meter dashes, then joined Kim Murphy, Ciara Taylor and Rachel Walker to finish second in the 4×100 relay with a season-best 51.3 clocking.

Ironton's 4×400 relay team of Brianna McCown, Rachael Payne, Murphy and Taylor took first place with a 4:23.4 time. Taylor also placed second in the 400 meters.

South Point's Sarah Lee won the long jump at 16-8 and one-half inches, just ahead of Rock Hill's Cassy Chaffins.

Coal Grove's Emillie Sites was first in the pole vault. Ironton's Katie Harper was in a three-way tie for second.

The top four finishers in each event qualify for the regional meet to be held Wednesday and Friday at Byesville Meadowbrook.
