Chris Moore hopes her new degree from Ohio University Southern will take her places - or at least help her take other people places.

Moore, of Coal Grove, received her associate's degree in travel and tourism Friday night at Ohio University Southern's 24th annual graduate recognition program and reception. A total of 281 people who took most or all of their courses at the southern campus obtained associate's, bachelor's master's or doctorate degrees at the ceremony.

Moore, who began her college career as an education major, switched majors when she learned OUS offered travel and tourism classes.

"I love to travel. I was a Navy brat until I was 2 years old and my dad still liked to travel," Moore said of her decision to pick her major. "It was always adventurous."

Moore decided to use her love of travel to help other people plan vacations. She hopes to secure a job as a tour operative or tour guide, putting together trips for people.

The featured speaker for the ceremony was Lacey S. Curtis, Ph.D.

The graduate recognition can be viewed on Adelphia Cable channel 25 in the Ironton/Ashland, Ky., area each evening at 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
