PROCTORVILLE - A community poised for growth has a short time to wait because three new businesses are slated to open doors in mid to late summer.

University Plaza will be home to a Dairy Queen and a pizza parlor with a connecting gameroom. Riley Development began construction in Spring and plans are proceeding on schedule according to partners Scott Riley and David Spurlock.

Real Alternative Property LLC is the company operating the businesses. Business Operator Jeff Jones said the DQ is going to be unique because the interior decor will be themed with local schools' colors and memorabilia.

"We want a place for kids to be able to go with a family atmosphere," he said.

The family game room will feature tickets and prizes with rental availability to host birthday or other parties. Jones said plaza parking will be plentiful to include room for buses.

Looking to future plans, an additional plaza with approximately eight to 10 units is in the works. A tanning bed and manicure salon operator among others has expressed an interest,

Jones said.

Approximately 60 to 65 jobs will be created after the project is completed.

University Plaza will be located at the corner of State Route 775 and County Road 403 with the OUS Proctorville Center site across the road.
