COAL GROVE - After a fast start, rains caused a break. Following the break, there was no applying the brakes.

At Rocky Top Raceway last Friday, the rains came just after qualifying and that would lead to a 3-hour rain delay.

Quick time was set by Nick Bocook as several big-name late model drivers came to race. Names included Kenny Christy, Barry Bragdon, the Bocooks, Robert Fletcher, Rod Evans and Dave Hackathorn, along with many more.

Because of the long rain delay, RTR officials and drivers decided not to run heat races but rather start them by using qualifying times. Kenny Christy of Vanceburg, Ky., would take the $1,200 prize with Nick Bocook in second.

Randy Boggs took the win in the modifieds with Todd Robinson in second. Steve Dillow claimed his second career win in the limited late Model division. Brett Carey grabbed the checkered flag in the bombers over Conard Newman.

Rocky Top Raceway announced this week a new payout increase that rivals other area tracks which should attract the top drivers. Payouts are $1,200 for late models, $800 to win for modifieds, $500 for limited late models, and $400 for bombers.

The track runs late Models, modifieds, limited late models and bombers each Friday.
