"We encourage those who own canoes to bring them, but we will have canoes available at no cost," said Grayson Thornton, chairman of the Restoration committee.

The event is open to novice canoeists as well as those with experience. It is sanctioned by the U.S. Canoe Association.

"In past years, many of our participants have been family groups, with adults supervising children," Thornton said.

The committee will conduct a raffle drawing during ceremonies at the boat ramp.
