CHESAPEAKE - Canoeists and kayakers will assemble for the annual Symmes Creek Canoe Caper at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Chesapeake boat ramp.
The event, sponsored by the Symmes Creek Restoration Committee, will involve an on water litter clean-up on
the lower two miles of Symmes, followed by a five-mile paddle down the Ohio River to the Burlington Riverfront Park, where participants will be served a picnic lunch by the women of the Windsor Grange.

"We encourage those who own canoes to bring them, but we will have canoes available at no cost," said Grayson Thornton, chairman of the Restoration committee.
The event is open to novice canoeists as well as those with experience. It is sanctioned by the U.S. Canoe Association.
"In past years, many of our participants have been family groups, with adults supervising children," Thornton said.
The committee will conduct a raffle drawing during ceremonies at the boat ramp.
