SOUTH POINT - An Ironton man was behind bars Saturday after a scuffle with an Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper Friday.

Peter Richardson, 32, of 511 S. Ninth St., was charged with aggravated assault on a peace officer, criminal simulation and possession of marijuana. He was held in the Lawrence County Jail.

Trooper Paul Isgett said he stopped the vehicle Richardson was driving near milepost 15 on U.S. 52 because of some defects with the automobile.

During the traffic stop, Richardson allegedly became agitated and once he stepped outside the vehicle, allegedly attempted to strike Isgett.

A scuffle allegedly ensued and Isgett said Richardson ran into the brush behind the Rose of Sharon Trailer Park off U.S. 52.

Isgett apprehended Richardson and a scuffle ensued a second time.

"During the course of the investigation I found some marijuana cigarette butts and about 300 pirated music CDs and some other fake items, some Louis Vuitton handbags and hats," Isgett said.

The incident and the possession of these items remain under investigation.

During the incident, Isgett sustained a small bruise to one arm.
