MERCERVILLE - The Green Bobcats are greedy.

Using a ball-control offense, Green pounded out a 20-7 win over the South Gallia Rebels Friday.

Fullback Mark Castro ran 34 times for 205 yards and Josh Moore had 129 yards on 17 carries as the Bobcats racked up 347 yards rushing and 396 total yards.

Mistakes were the only thing that kept Green from making the game a rout. The Bobcats lost two fumbles and had several costly penalties.

"We played ball control," Green coach Kevin Sheridan said. "If we don't put the ball on the ground, we make it a lot easier. We had the ball inside the 20 twice in the first half and didn't score."

While the offense was chewing up yards, the defense limited South Gallia to 174 total yards. The Rebels had 117 yards on the ground with 62 coming on one play.

"The defense was solid all night. We had one lapse in the third quarter and their back made a good cut and scored," Sheridan said.

Green went up 7-0 in the first quarter on a 1-yard run by Moore. Castro kicked the conversion.

Another long drive in the second quarter culminated with Moore going 18 yards and Castro added the extra point for a 14-0 lead.

The Bobcats drove inside the 20 but a penalty on third-and-8 stymied the threat.

Green had a chance to score in the third quarter, but a fumble near the goal line was recovered by the Rebels.

Bernie Fulks then ripped off a 62-yard scoring run and Josh Wright kicked the conversion as South Gallia cut the deficit in half at 14-7.

Green responded with a long drive capped by Castro's 3-yard run on fourth down with 10:36 to play.

"We should have had a score and then they got one to put some pressure on us. But to our credit, we didn't fold. We came back with a drive of our own and scored," Sheridan said.

Fulks ran nine times for 67 yards to pace the Rebels.

The Bobcats are now 2-0 and host Waterford next Friday.

"It's a good win anytime you go on the road. South Gallia wasn't a bad team. They would hit you," Sheridan said.
