One man is dead, another hospitalized after two separate incidents over the weekend.

Tommy Keaton, 24, of 2832 S. 11th St., was arrested Saturday and charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of his stepfather, Robert Gore, 45, of the 200 block of Market Street.

Just after midnight Saturday, a woman in the 900 block of North Second Street telephoned the Ironton Police Department and said that "two guys are beating the hell out of a man" and that she saw people flee the scene in two vehicles, a white Ford Bronco and a white Dodge. The caller said the victim was lying on the sidewalk.

Gore was taken to Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Ironton police detective Jim Akers said the incident remains under investigation. "We're waiting to get the autopsy results, and we're still interviewing witnesses," Akers said.

Keaton is scheduled for arraignment this afternoon in Ironton Municipal Court.

Gore's death brings this year's murder count for Lawrence County to five. All of the deaths have taken place since Aug. 2.

In another incident Sunday night, Anthony Bell, 21, of 1173 County Road 1, South Point, was arrested and charged with assault after an alleged fight in the 1800 block of S. Eighth St.

The victim, Shawn Miller, 36, of Coal Grove, was taken to King's Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky., where he was treated and released.

"From what we have gathered one party was drinking and there was a fight," Ironton police officer Pam Neal Wagner said.

Bell is also scheduled to appear in Ironton Municipal Court this afternoon.
