Pirates shutout Lucasville Valley, 24-0

LUCASVILLE - The Wheelersburg Pirates went on the defensive.

Sparks by two goal line stands, the Pirates blanked the Lucasville Valley Indians 24-0 Friday.

After a scoreless first quarter, Wheelersburg (2-1) went ahead 7-0 on a 27-yard by Brian Stephenson with 11:17 left in the half.

The Pirates Kailyb Burgess intercepted a pass at the Valley 30 to set up a 1-yard run by Brandon White and a 14-0 lead.

A 58-yard run by Brandon Turner helped Valley move the ball inside the 1-yard line later in the second quarter. But the Pirates defense stopped the Indians short of the goal line. on a fourth-and-inches play.

Following an exchange of fumbles, Tom Kaskey hit Stephenson with a couple of passes covering 61 yards to help set up a 22-yard field goal by Bryan Craft as the half ended and the lead was 17-0.

Neither team scored in the third quarter and the final touchdown came on a 50-yard run by Chris Pyles with 1:21 to play.

Kaskey had 66 yards passing and other 49 rushing. Alex Peach ran for 48 yards.

Brock Williams threw for 69 yards but suffered three interceptions. Turner lead the Indians in rushing with 66 yards, and Jordan Swavel added 47.
