Ironton 5th in AP poll

The Ironton Fighting Tigers will start at the halfway mark.

Ironton found itself ranked fifth among the top 10 Division IV teams ranked in the first Associated Press high school football poll released Tuesday.

The Fighting Tigers, 3-0, earned 109 points and three first-place votes and trail Delta by just three points. Bellaire is sixth and just three points behind Ironton.

Defending state champion Versailles had a comfortable lead over fellow conference member Coldwater of 220 to 191. Versailles has 12 first-place votes.

Youngstown Mooney is third with 168 points and five first-place votes.

Cincinnati Colerain leads Lakewood St. Edward by four points in Division I, Avon Lake has a big lead in Division II, Steubenville is 27 points ahead of Akron Hoban in Division III, Amanda-Clearcreek has a comfortable lead in Division V and Dola Hardin is ahead of Columbus Grove in Division VI by 12 points.
