First Church of the Nazarene in Ironton is one of some 13,000 churches nationwide that will be taking part in an interdenominational spiritual growth event scheduled for later this month.

It is called "40 Days of Purpose." It is based on the book "The Purpose Driven Life" by Rick Warren.

First Nazarene pastor, the Rev. Terry Stivers, said "40 Days of Purpose" answers the question "What on earth am I here for?"

"Most people in society today are looking for real purpose in their life. As a pastor of almost 30 years I have seen people try to find fulfillment in a lot of ways. In this ("40 Days") we look at what the Lord says and what the Bible says about what God has created for us."

Stivers has 20-25 households in his church have signed up to take part in the event.

To kick off "40 Days of Purpose," the church will have a tailgate party Saturday, Sept., 25. Those who take part are asked to memorize weekly Bible scriptures, having family devotionals and take part in small group study. Those who want more information may call the church at 532-3413.
