Panthers blank Valley

LUCAVILLE - The Chesapeake Panthers are alive and well.

After dropping their first two games of the season, the Panthers bounced back with a second straight win as they blanked the Lucasville Valley Indians 21-0 Saturday night.

Keith Marcum had a 6-yard scoring run with 8:57 left in the half and Cody Methax kicked the point after as Chesapeake (2-2) took a 7-0 lead.

Quarterback Caleb McComas hit Jeff Thornburg with a 6-yard TD pass with only four seconds left in the half and it was 14-0.

Jackson Caynor's 2-yard run in the third quarter capped the scoring.

McComas was 6 of 12 passing for 121 yards. Marcum ran 13 times for 88 yards and Caynor added 61 yards on 15 attempts.

The game was scheduled to be played at Chesapeake but moved to Lucasville because the Panthers field was under water.

WEST PORTSMOUTH - The Portsmouth West Senators jumped out to a 24-0 halftime lead and went on to beat the Rock Hill Redmen 38-14 Saturday night.

Jerrod Pendleton ran 17 times for 175 yards and scored two touchdowns - one on a 55-yard interception return - to lead West, 2-2. Kyle Ruggles had 73 yards on seven rushes and a TD.

Rock Hill, 1-3, was led by T.J. Blagg with 140 yards on 25 carries and a 14-yard touchdown run with 6:16 to play. Jeremy Mays ran 5 yards for the other Redmen score. Quarterback Derek Robinson was 7 of 12 for 56 yards.
