OXFORD, Ohio - Mike Smith scored two touchdowns, Josh Betts threw two scoring passes and Ryne Robinson had a 74-yard punt return for a touchdown to lead Miami (Ohio) to a 40-20 victory over Ohio on Saturday in th 81st meeting between the rivals.
Smith, who had 41 yards rushing on 10 carries, scored on a 20-yard run and also caught a 38-yard TD pass from Betts. Betts, 21 of 32 passes for 268 yards with one interception, also threw a 23-yard scoring pass to Martin Nance for the RedHawks (2-2, 1-0 Mid-American Conference).
Robinson's punt return for a touchdown was his second of the year and fifth of his career. He has had two others called back by penalties.
Ryan Hawk , who completed 23 of 39 passes for 253 yards, hit Kalvin McRae on a 39-yard scoring play and Scott Mayle for a 24-yard touchdown. Hawk also ran for a 1-yard TD for the Bobcats (1-2, 0-1).
Ohio was limited to 9 net yards rushing on 34 carries. Miami had six sacks for 53 yards in losses, equaling its sack total in its first three games.
Chris Jackson tied Ohio's single-game record for receptions with 12, for 86 yards.
The RedHawks now hold a 50-29-2 record in the series, with wins in the last five meetings and 10 of the last 11.
