PORTSMOUTH - If gospel singer Priscilla McGruder's music is not powerful enough, her message may really hit home with the audience.

McGruder, a Kennett, Mo., native will share her triumph over stage four cancer and her struggles with her daughter's substance abuse, as well as her ministry in song.

Popular songs include "I'm going Home With Jesus," "Saved," "I've Just Started Living," "Thanks," "I Lean on You, Lord," "A Great Homecoming" and "Most of All."

"We want to try and unify Christian women in southern Ohio and Eastern Kentucky," Cox said of the event that is sponsored by local women. "It will be a real uplifting and inspiring event."

Priscilla, also part of the gospel group, The McGruders, has performed in some of the largest festivities in North America.

Cox said she believes that McGruder's message could be tremendous for those in need of spiritual guidance.

"We would like to reach people going through similar type situations," she said. "I think it will be good for them to hear her message."

"I think she really lives what she believes, for me. She really sings from the heart."

Gina Vera of Xenia will also perform.

Several of her songs have made the charts including, "You Don't Even Want to Make Me Pray."
