Fighting Tigers, Hornets among early computer leaders

A familiar face is still there, but an old face has returned.

The Ohio High School Athletic Association first football computer ratings have been released, and as expected the Ironton Fighting Tigers are among the leaders.

But also on the list after a long absence are the Coal Grove Hornets.

Coal Grove, 3-1, is seventh in Region 19 of Division V with a 5.0500 average. Amanda-Clearcreek leads the region while the Wheelersburg Pirates are fifth with a 5.8500 average.

Ironton, 4-0, is bidding for its 23rd trip to the postseason. The Fighting Tigers are second in Region 15 of Division IV with a 7.700 average behind Bellaire which has an 8.1300 total.

In third place is Martins Ferry and Portsmouth is fourth.

The top eight teams in each region of each division qualifies for the postseason playoffs. Updated ratings will be released each week with the final results and pairings announced on Sunday, Oct. 31.
