COAL GROVE - A fire Friday morning destroyed a house on Bowman Street. Fire Chief Gary Sherman said the blaze remains under investigation.

Sherman said firefighters were called to the Schoolcraft residence just before 9:30 a.m. Three people at the residence at the time of the fire, an adult and two children, managed to escape unharmed.

Sherman said the fire apparently started in an upstairs bedroom.

"The fire was confined to that house, and there was no damage to any other house," Sherman said. "The American Red Cross is helping out. (Lawrence County Coordinator Annabelle Jenkins) was on the scene pretty quickly."

The Coal Grove Fire Department received mutual assistance from the Ironton and Perry Township fire departments.
