Ironton 2nd in new AP poll

One more spot.

The Ironton Fighting Tigers moved up one more spot in this week's Associated Press Division IV football poll voting.

A loss by No. 1 ranked Versailles sent Coldwater to the top spot while Ironton moved from third place to second in voting by a state panel of sports writers and broadcasters.

Coldwater, which plays Versailles next week, got 19 first place votes and 328 points. Ironton went from three to eight first place votes and now has 276 points, up 11 from last week.

Versailles lost to Maria Stein 24-14 and dropped to seventh. Coldwater beat Maria Stein 24-12 in week two.

Jonathan Alder is third followed by Akron Manchester, Huron, Martins Ferry, Versailles, Upper Sandusky, Youngstown Mooney and Youngstown Ursuline.

Wheelersburg cracked the Division V poll with 19 points to place 14th.

Other poll leaders are Cincinnati Colerain in Division I, Avon Lake in II, Steubenville in III, Amanda Clearcreek in V and Columbus Grove in VI.
