New and improved.

That could soon be the tag line for the city of Ironton's Internet Web page.

of Ironton are working with the Ironton Mayor's office to add a tab to the city's Web page directing visitors to a calendar of activities in the city.

Friends of Ironton member Dean Nance said the city has a long and growing list of activities that draw crowds annually. Advertising what the city has to offer could increase the size of those crowds and could make local people more aware of what is in their own back yards.

"We have the Co-Op Club crafts show, the IHS Drama Club and things of that nature. Wouldn't it be nice to have information about these things so people who are looking for something to do can check out the city's website and see what is happening in town?" Nance said. "There is a lot of history and talent in our town we are just broadening our market from local to worldwide."

Nance said the tab will be up and running as soon as information can be collected to place on the page. Those organizations that would like to have activities and events included may contact Nance at 532-4133. The city's web site is www.ironton-ohio.com.

City officials are welcoming the new link. "It is our intent to refine the Web page to become more of a community news area, to list community events, agendas for Ironton City Council and possibly minutes from previous meetings," Mayor John Elam said. "We have been able to provide the web site, now we're looking to enhance it. The World Wide Web provides us another form of media for people to find out about our city and events affecting Ironton."

Elam said he welcomes community input and those who wish to comment can call his office at 532-3833.

The web page was created earlier this year by students in an Ironton High School Tech Prep Interactive Media II class. It won second place with a superior rating at a competition hosted at Shawnee State University.
