FRANKLIN FURNACE - Green wasn't seeing red.

The Green Bobcats were able to move the football, but they were unable to get into the red zone - inside the 20-yard line - and lost 34-6 to the Portsmouth East Tartans Friday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

"Early on we were able to move the ball from 30 to 30, but then we'd just bog down when we needed to make a block. To East's credit, they buckled down defensively," Green coach Kevin Sheridan said.

East used the running tandem of Ricky and Arthur Henderson to beat down the Green defense. Ricky Henderson ran 12 times for 185 yards and Arthur Henderson had 10 carries for 116 yards. Both had two touchdowns.

Ricky Henderson had touchdown runs of 2 and 70 yards in the first quarter as East went up 14-0.

Arthur Henderson had a 46-yard scoring run and Bryan Adkins added a 1-yard burst as the Tartans led 28-0 at the half.

"I felt if we could limit their big plays, we'd have a chance. But their line comes off the ball and their backs do a good job blocking for each other. If we hold them on a fourth-and-7 early, it might be different. They got the big runs all night," Sheridan said.

The Bobcats got on the scoreboard early in the fourth quarter when Derek Lewis hit C.J. Blevins with a 15-yard touchdown pass. It was Green's first touchdown through the air this season.

Lewis was 4 of 8 passing for 37 yards. Blevins ran 15 times for 56 yards and Andy Avery had 46 yards on 13 carries.

Green, 2-6 and 1-3, was without fullback Mark Castro with a knee injury and backup Curtis Botkins was hurt and left the game.

"We were limited offensively, and defensively we gave up too many big plays," Sheridan said.

East, 5-3 and 3-1 in the SOC, plays host to Symmes Valley next Friday. If the Tartans beat the Vikings, it would mean a share of the first SOC I title at East since 1994.
