WHEELERSBURG - For the Wheelersburg Pirates, the defense was as explosive as the offense.

Wheelersburg's TNT defensive front harassed Steubenville Central Catholic Crusaders quarterback Tyler Reynard all night and the offense racked up 411 total yards in a 42-8 rout Saturday night in the Division V Region 19 quarterfinals.

Reynard was just 5 of 19 for 89 yards as he was chased from the pocket all night, and he was sacked five times for minus 37 yards.

Pirates coach Tony Lewis praised the defense, especially the defensive tackles, nose guard and ends.

"Our TNT (tackle-nose-tackle) put a lot of pressure on their quarterback. We brought a linebacker once in a while, but usually it was just our front five," Lewis said.

The Pirates, 10-1, got 118 yards rushing from Brian Stephenson to lead a ground game that churned out 345 yards.

Wheelersburg began the game with an onside kickoff and recovered at the Central 37. The drive stalled and Tom Kaskey kicked a 27-yard field goal.

After a punt, the Pirates went 71 yards in seven plays keyed by Brandon White's 33-yard run. Stephenson scored on a 5-yard run and it was 10-0.

White had a 2-yard scoring run and Kaskey hit a wide-open Matt Watson on a post pattern with 35 seconds left for a pair of second quarter touchdowns that put the Pirates up 23-0 at the break.

Stephenson ran 53 yards for a touchdown and Kaskey added a 2-yard keeper as the lead went to 36-0 in the third quarter.
